On the 6th of November 2011, Bishop Dabula Anthony Mpako of Queenstown went to Cathcart for Confirmation. This was a wonderful day for the congregation of Katikathi, where the main church is situated. After long hours of preparation, a festive community, together with their pastor, Fr Matthias Nsamba received joyfully their new bishop who is like them, a Xhosa himself. Theme of the Holy Mass was evidently the Holy Spirit, His gifts and we, the receivers of those gifts, called up to become adult members of the Church. So as the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and Mary in the Cenacle making them fearless and full of zeal, in the same way he comes down upon the confirmants giving them the opportunity to come up and to speak up for their faith. Quite often, Catholics need a little more “fire”in the living of their faith, and the hope was expressed that those 7 young people would respond positively upon the wonderful invitation God gave them that day. Committed adulthood to the infinite Glory of God: Yes that is it what God offers us by sending his Spirit upon us in the Sacrament of Confirmation!
Red is the liturgical colour for Spirit and fire. A original idea came up to have all the confirmants fitted out with the colour of the day: RED!!!
Well done Cathcart! May the good seed, sawn that day turn into a rich harvest in God’s field!
