On Monday, the 28th of January 2013, Father Matthias Nsamba, the Priest in Charge of Qoqodala, called his congregation together for a Requiem Mass for the late Father Arnold Fischer SAC, who was the Priest of Qoqodala for 24 years. The Mass started at 11:30, exactly at the same time the funeral of Father Fischer started in Limburg an der Lahn in Germany.
Although being a Monday, the faithful of Qoqodala had done their uppermost best to be present for that service, and even a delegation from every outstation had come up to pray for their beloved priest.
The concelebrated Mass was presided by Father Matthias Nsamba, the actual Priest in Charge of the Qoqodala Mission, accompanied by the Fathers Leopold Scherer from Ntaba Maria en Edward Tratsaert SAC from Queenstown St. Theresa’s.
As a confrere of Father Fischer who was also a Pallottine, Father Edward Tratsaert held the eulogy during which he highlighted some important events in the life of Father Fischer emphasizing the mystery of the call coming from Christ Himself, inviting and urging Arnold Fischer to become a priest and a missionary.
It was indeed Jesus of Nazareth Himself, who made him clear that He was the way, the truth, the resurrection and the life, calling the young Arnold Fischer up to follow Him. Later on, it was the same Jesus Christ, who kept the older Father Fischer going in proclaiming that same good news to the Xhosa people he loved that much.
Jesus Christ, the Apostle of the Eternal Father has now called his messenger to Him, so that he, enjoying the eternal rest, may now become a true blessing for everybody in the Diocese of Queenstown where he worked that hard and successful…
After the service, the people gathered in the Church Hall, which will be renamed into the “Father Fischer Hall”, to honour their late and beloved Priest in their customary way.
